Cerro Chirripó, Costa Rica

Cerro Chirripó is the highest mountain in Costa Rica, with an elevation of 3821 meters. The route to reach the top starts at the mountain village San Gerardo de Rivas and requires a permit to access Parque Nacional Chirripó. Most people split up the trip into two days:

  • Day 1: Ascent from San Gerardo de Rivas (1512m) to Base Camp Crestones (3350m)
  • Day 2: Ascent from Base Camp Crestones to the peak (3821m) and descent back to San Gerardo de Rivas (1512m)

Because I did not have a permit for two days, I decided to do whole route in a single day making it really though. I would not recommend doing this hike in just one day.
